With Sri Lanka missing their three senior batsmen, the dead rubber was supposed to be a big test for the younger set. They came through, with Kusal Perera hitting his maiden international century and Dinesh Chandimal finding form to guide Sri Lanka home and complete the 3-0 whitewash.There was disbelief at Kusal’s strike-rate when he reached his third ODI fifty at the end of the 25th over. Sri Lanka still needed 138 runs at the halfway mark and Kusal was hitting at 62.50, when his career strike-rate is 86.15. But it didn’t take long for him to pick up the pace. He found two bowlers, Sohag Gazi and Shafiul Islam, to attack whenever the required run-rate needed a lift and raced to his maiden century.His strike-rate was at a healthy 84.74, having blasted his last 56 runs off 44 balls. His increased scoring rate coincided with Sri Lanka turning the corner in their 241-run chase. The 3-0 win was just reward for their ability to turn corners, even in the direst situations as they showed in the first two ODIs.Kusal dictated the course of the chase, batting with circumspection when Sri Lanka needed. He saw Lahiru Thirimanne fall in the eleventh over to a soft dismissal, before Kithuruwan Vithanage, promoted to No 3 in place of Kumar Sangakkara, missed a slog-sweep in the 17th over.Kusal’s partnership for the fourth wicket was worth 138 and effectively decided the fate of the game. Chandimal worked his way through singles and twos to reach his fifty in the 36th over, and soon, Kusal moved from 93 to 99 with a six off Sohag Gazi, and immediately reached three figures with a single.The change in momentum perhaps came in the 32nd over when the pair took 13 runs off Gazi, and followed it up with 14 off Shafiul. The required run-rate dropped well below five and by the time Rubel Hossain removed both batsmen in consecutive overs, it was far too late.This has been the theme of the series for the home side, not taking wickets when most required and dropping catches. They dropped one today. With the bat too, there was hardly any extra pressure applied on the Sri Lankan bowlers.Apart from Mominul Haque and Mahmudullah, the other five Bangladesh batsmen failed to get going after starting off well. Shamsur Rahman gave a simple catch to deep square leg, falling to Dhammika Prasad’s short-ball trap after making 25 off 44.Mominul Haque was run out after batting impressively to reach 60, his maiden ODI fifty. There was definite two in that tap from Mushfiqur Rahim towards the leg-side field but Kithuruwan Vithanage’s direct hit caught him short after turning slowly for the second run.Mushfiqur gave an easy catch to point, after which Naeem holed out to mid-off, Mahmudullah to long-on and Nasir Hossain at midwicket (off a full-toss). Sohag Gazi blasted three sixes, which helped the score to move to 240.Prasad, playing his first ODI in nearly two years, and Suranga Lakmal were the pick of the bowlers, taking three and two wickets respectively. Prasad used his bounce well, accounting for Anamul behind the wicket and later Shamsur and Mushfiqur. Lakmal removed Mahmudullah and Nasir in the 45th over, after two tight spells, ending up conceding just 24 off 10 overs.Bangladesh had to function without regular runs from both openers in the same match, while Mahmudullah continued his terrible run by getting out for five, after making a duck and one in the last two games. Nasir, Mushfiqur, Shamsur and Mominul also couldn’t kick on, giving the team management a selection headache ahead of the Asia Cup.Sri Lanka have a few things to worry about, and will be expected to be on top of conditions and pitches here in Bangladesh, having won five matches in a row since February 12.

Australia’s spearhead Mitchell Johnson has been forced out of the World Twenty20 due to an infected toe, thrusting Doug Bollinger into the squad as the national selectors’ next best left-arm option.Johnson had initially been rested from the T20 matches that followed his major contribution to the 2-1 Test series win in South Africa. However the infection, derived from a cut to Johnson’s right big toe that he carried through a marathon bowling stint on the final day of the series at Newlands, has been slow to heal.Though currently being treated with antibiotics, Johnson was ruled out of the event on Sunday, with Bollinger now preparing to journey to Bangladesh rather than playing for New South Wales in the Sheffield Shield final against Western Australia in Canberra.”Mitchell had a cut on his right big toe after the 3rd Test against South Africa which became infected when he returned home to Australia after the series,” Cricket Australia’s chief medical officer, Dr Justin Paoloni said. “We have given Mitchell as long as we can but unfortunately his infection hasn’t responded to the treatment as quickly as we had hoped with swelling remaining in his toe and foot.”It is difficult to say how quickly the infection will take to resolve and due to the high risk of infection recurrence with a return to bowling we feel it is in the best interests of Mitchell’s health for him to continue to receive intensive treatment in Perth.”Johnson’s absence is an enormous blow to Australia’s chances to end a hugely successful summer with their first World T20 trophy, given his supreme performances in Tests against England and South Africa. It is also a significant reverse for the tournament itself, as Johnson is arguably cricket’s most watchable performer at present, adding pace, excitement and danger to every match he takes part in.Bollinger has not played for Australia since October 2011, but he was part of the Test squad during the latter part of the home Ashes series, when the selectors elected to carry an unchanged XI through all five Tests. Adriano, cujo contrato com o Besiktas (TUR) se encerra no meio do ano, é outro pedido direto de Cuca à diretoria. Ele desperta o interesse de outros clubes e inicialmente pediu um salário considerado muito alto para acertar com o São Paulo. Os valores se aproximaram nas conversas dos últimos dias, mas, segundo pessoas do clube ouvidas pela reportagem, a distância para um acordo ainda é considerável.

Fabio Santanna, agente do atleta de 34 anos, falou em tom mais otimista ao Globo Esporte no fim de semana, mas “passou a bola” para a diretoria são-paulina:

Ishant Sharma has revealed he nearly quit ODIs after he was left out of the World T20 side following average series against Australia, South Africa and New Zealand. He came back to the ODI side with a match-winning over in the Champions Trophy final in 2013, but the three bilateral ODI series that followed pushed him out.”It was a setback for me when I did not do well for the country or when I was not selected,” Ishant said at a Sunrisers Hyderabad function. “I think the one person who gave me confidence was my mother. At one stage, I thought I should stop playing ODIs. But my mother pulled me out of my negativities. Such support from your parents or friends gives you much-needed confidence. Now, I am enjoying my cricket, which is more important. If you enjoy your cricket and express yourself on the field, you will do well.”Ishant insisted he he has brushed aside the disappointment, and is now looking forward to the new IPL season. “You feel bad when you are not part of the T20 World Cup,” he said. “It is a big tournament. But it is not in my hand. If I am playing Test cricket or wherever I am playing, I have to do well in those conditions and that particular format.”I am looking forward to do well in the new season. I am bowling well. I am in good rhythm. I played in domestic Twenty20, bowled well, took some wickets. I am confident with my bowling and hopefully I will do well for the Sunrisers this time as well.”Not among the players retained by Sunrisers ahead of this year’s auction, Ishant was, however, bought back by the franchise for $400,000. Last season, he picked up 15 wickets from 16 matches and formed a potent new-ball pairing with Dale Steyn in IPL 2013 that was instrumental in the franchise’s top-four finish. “Dale gives his plans and we set fields accordingly. That helps a fast bowler. It feels really great. I have learnt a lot from him.”Another player who has helped the team grow, according to Ishant, is Darren Sammy. “When he was not playing in the initial part last year, he was giving ideas to every member of the team,” Ishant said. “All these small things help the team do well. When we sit together, it’s not that we just laugh. We talk about cricket, about where we should improve. “Expecting the pitches in the UAE to be similar, Ishant says he needs to use his experience and stick to the plans. “I think the wicket will be the same,” he said. “It does not matter whether you play in India or UAE, the wicket will be the same in Asia. You should know where you need to bowl in the T20 format. You don’t need to see how the wicket is going to behave. You just need to execute your plans well.”During his break from international cricket, Ishant has played a number of domestic limited-overs matches for Delhi and North Zone, the highlight being his spell of 4 for 9 in his last T20 outing for Delhi in the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy.”I bowled well in South Africa and New Zealand and in the North Zone T20 tournament too,” he said. “I am looking forward to doing well for Sunrisers in the IPL.”A tough season awaits India after the IPL as the team heads straight to England for a five-Test tour. But Ishant is not looking too far ahead: “I don’t set personal goals for myself. Because in doing so you end up putting pressure on yourself. In T20 cricket one needs to react according to the situation.”
