We are not up to international standards. And also fielding is another aspect where all the other international teams are really going up to a higher level, and that comes with fitness.”A lot of steps have been taken by the cricket board to try to develop a fitness culture in Pakistani domestic cricket. But still, we are not there. If we don’t improve, we’re going to suffer in the future.”Though Wahab bowled one of the greatest spells in World Cup history early in Australia’s chase, Pakistan suffered from having made only 213 themselves. Their innings was characterised by middling scores from the top seven, and the lack of substantial partnerships. Their largest stand was for the third wicket – a 73-run association between Misbah and Haris Sohail.”We were really going well at one stage, but after 20, 23 overs, suddenly we just keep losing wickets. That’s been the trend throughout the World Cup. We are getting starts but we are not converting that into bigger scores. After six batsmen keep doing that, it’s really difficult for your bowling lineup to defend totals like that every day – especially on batting pitches like we were playing on today.”We need to really learn about this. We’ve got only one hundred throughout the tournament, and this is not how you win tournaments like the World Cup. You need batsmen who will score hundreds, and I think we as a batting unit failed to do that.”The quarter-final was also Shahid Afridi’s last in ODI cricket, if he adheres to his current retirement plans. Misbah spoke of the outstanding Pakistan players both he and Afridi have played with in their time.”It was really an honour for me to just represent my country, and I really enjoyed my cricket. I’ve given everything and so has Afridi. He put in a lot of effort for Pakistan and we really enjoyed that.”The message for the youngsters is that if you really want to compete in the world, you have to really work hard. That’s what our seniors did. That’s what we learned from all our greats. I really enjoyed playing cricket with some of the greats like Inzamam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Yousuf, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis. The kind of fighting spirit I’ve seen in them – I think we need to just take that as an example. This is the only way.”

Alviro Petersen erased the memory of his previous visit to Derby with an accomplished century that revived Lancashire’s fortunes on the opening day.The 34-year-old South African bagged a king pair playing for Glamorgan at the County Ground in 2011 but he celebrated his return with 115 on his first-class Lancashire debut and shared a fifth wicket stand of 135 with captain Tom Smith who made a determined 38 from 117 balls.Petersen became Mark Footitt’s 200th first-class victim after tea but by then Lancashire were back in the game after Derbyshire had reduced them to 61 for 4 at lunch and they closed on 292 for 8.Derbyshire’s decision to bowl first came as no surprise given the overcast conditions and the visitors were soon in trouble, losing both openers in the first five overs of a chilly day. Paul Horton was undone by some late movement from Tony Palladino while Luis Reece got only half forward to Footitt and lost his middle stump.Petersen and Ashwell Prince did well to survive with both players batting out of their crease to combat the swing as only two boundaries came in the first 15 overs. Prince was starting to assert himself, taking three fours from a Tom Taylor over, but was bowled aiming to drive Shiv Thakor through midwicket and Derbyshire completed an excellent morning’s work when Steven Croft was lbw playing back to Palladino.Batting became easier after the sun broke through but Petersen and Smith still had to earn their runs against an attack which kept its discipline throughout the day. Petersen played with increasing authority but Smith’s innings was just as impressive given the circumstances and the pair looked like batting through the afternoon until Smith got a bottom-edge trying to cut Alex Hughes.By then, Petersen had reached three figures from 149 balls, surviving a difficult swirling chance on 90 to long on off Wes Durston, but his first century since his 155 for Somerset against Lancashire last June was richly deserved.It was a surprise when he mistimed a pull and was caught at square leg shortly after tea but Alex Davies and Peter Siddle reinforced Lancashire’s position with a stand of 86 in 26 overs although Derbyshire hit back by removing them both in the final two overs.Derbyshire captain Wayne Madsen said: “If I’m honest I thought we probably let them off the hook a little bit. We had chances to have them in a lot of trouble although to be fair Smith and Petersen played well but after winning the toss we were hoping to keep them under 250 or 270 but we feel we are still well in the game.”

Jonathan Trott is tipped to be the latest opening partner for Alastair Cook when England begin their Test series against West Indies on April 13 but Cook, who has not found a regular ally since Andrew Strauss retired, said the choice between Trott and Adam Lyth, the leading run-scorer in Division One of the County Championship last season, is yet to be discussed.Trott is back on tour for the first time since leaving the Ashes tour of 2013-14 after the first Test with a stress-related illness but since returning for Warwickshire has proved his form once again with five centuries in Championship and 50-over cricket.Cook reported Trott to be in good spirits as the tour party arrived in St Kitts ahead of the opening tour match on Easter Monday. But with Gary Ballance having made the No. 3 slot his own with three Test centuries last summer, Trott will be required to move up to open the batting to regain his place in the side.England also have the option of handing 27-year-old Lyth a Test debut. He made 1489 Championship runs at 67.68 last season, leading Yorkshire to the title, and Cook is enthused by the competition for the opener’s slot.”We’re lucky in one sense that we’re choosing between two very good players,” Cook said. “Ever since Straussy announced his retirement we haven’t quite found consistency in that position so whoever gets that chance gets the opportunity to try and nail that down. But we haven’t discussed that yet.”Trott has almost demanded selection and it’s great for me to see him back in an England shirt. He’s a great guy and if he gets his chance he’ll be desperate to do well. It would be his 50th game as well which is a great achievement if he gets there.”You don’t know 100% if he’ll be fine until he’s put out in the environment but Trotty’s done everything we’ve asked of him. He feels confident in himself and he’s just looking forward to taking that next step. What we do know is he’s a quality player. You don’t have his stats and that weight of runs behind you without being a quality player.”When I saw him in Brisbane I would have been surprised if he’d come back but it’s a huge credit to the work he’s done off the field and the effort he’s put in. That obviously shows his desire to come back to play for England.”The decision between Trott and Lyth is not the only area where England have competition for places. Another member of Yorkshire’s Championship-winning side, Adil Rashid, is on tour five years after he last played for England – reigniting England’s dream of finding a legspinning-allrounder after a failed experience with Scott Borthwick. Mark Wood, the Durham fast bowler, is another who could make a Test debut in Antigua.”There’s good competition for places,” Cook said. “The guys are desperate to put on a show to try and get their name in that XI. There’s some new faces and different characters and it will be great to see how they go in an England shirt.”Time is tight, we’ve got four days of cricket, but these things tend to work themselves out. We want to give people a chance but that doesn’t always happen. It’s down to each individual to get themselves ready as best as they can. You never know where your chance may come.”There’s a lot of things about selection that are unknown until you’re put into the pressure cooker of international cricket and make no mistake, it’s a high-intensity environment – there’s no doubt about that.”

-A vitória foi importante para que as coisas voltassem para os trilhos. Hoje estamos a um ponto do G4 com um jogo a menos. As perspectivas são boas, mas precisamos manter o bom futebol para alcançarmos nosso objetivo.

-Não tem jogo fácil na Série B. O Criciúma não vem num bom momento, mas isso tona o jogo ainda mais complicado. Temos que ter inteligência para sair de campo com mais três pontos importantes – finalizou o avante.

تحدث مدير التخطيط الرياضي بنادي فلومينينسي البرازيلي “فيريد” عن مواجهة الأهلي في الدور نصف النهائي ببطولة كأس العالم للأندية، مؤكدًا أن الفريق لديه حماس لخوض اللقاء، خاصة وأنه الأول له في المونديال.

وقال فيريد في تصريحات تلفزيونية بفضائية “أون تايم سبورتس”: “متحمسون لمباراة الأهلي، هو أول لقاء لفريقنا في كأس العالم للأندية، سنفعل كل شيء من أجل التأهل للمباراة النهائية”.

وتابع: “الأهلي كان المرشح الأقوى لتخطي الاتحاد، والتأهل كان مستحقًا لأنهم كانوا الأفضل في المباراة، والمهارت الفردية ساهمت في النتيجة”.

After going unsold at player auctions over the last two years, England batsman Alex Hales has said he was elated to finally be part of the IPL, a tournament he considered “the pinnacle of T20 cricket”. Hales was drafted into the Mumbai Indians squad as a replacement for the injured Corey Anderson and joined the team ahead of their final league game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday.”I was disappointed because T20 cricket is probably the game that I favour the most and suits me best,” Hales told . I didn’t know what to expect from the auctions. I just went in with an open mind and I told myself that I wasn’t going to get too down if I wasn’t picked up in the auction. I would have obviously loved to be picked up but I wasn’t leaning towards it anyway.”I have been desperate to get into this competition now for a couple of years. For me to get a chance like this is a great honour. It is a great opportunity to come over here.”He described it as a “dream come true” to be picked even if it was at a late stage. “It is such a massive tournament; it has been my aim and goal to get into this tournament. When I found out for sure that I would be a part of it on Friday, it was just elation for me at that moment. It was like a dream come true to come and play in this tournament.”His excitement and eagerness seemed to got the better of tiredness and jet lag. “Once I got here, it was all about the adrenaline,” Hales said. “I think the excitement just took over all the tiredness. I am loving the atmosphere and everything that the IPL symbolises. I enjoyed watching the game from the dugout tonight. So far, the few hours that I have been here with the Mumbai Indians, I have loved my experience.”Hales said he was in awe of Mumbai’s star studded coaching staff and hoped to be a part of the squad for the years to come “The best thing about the IPL is being surrounded by quality players and experts. Getting a chance to share the dressing room with two of my heroes growing up – Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting – is great. These are guys you can pick the brains of so that you can develop your own game. I have been following the tournament closely back home. The run of form that Mumbai Indians have been since the last five games has been brilliant.”After experimenting with their team combination, Mumbai managed to find the right balance right at the business end of the tournament. With Lendl Simmons and Parthiv Patel having given Mumbai good starts, it is unlikely that they will play Hales.But the Nottinghamshire batsman isn’t disappointed and is prepared to wait. “I am itching to get a game but if the chance doesn’t come across this year, then will keep my fingers crossed to get a go next year.”
