Leeds transfer news on Raphinha

The Athletic journalist Phil Hay has revealed what the ‘final target’ position for Leeds United is, and what ‘major’ business they still need to ‘negotiate’.

The Lowdown: Sinisterra signs

The Elland Road outfit confirmed the signing of winger Luis Sinisterra from Feyenoord at lunchtime, and he becomes their sixth new arrival in this window joining Brenden Aaronson, Tyler Adams, Darko Gyabi, Rasmus Kristensen and Marc Roca.

FC Barcelona and Chelsea are currently tussling over the signing of Raphinha, which would give Jesse Marsch’s side further funds to potentially spend and bring in more recruits.

The Latest: New forward targeted

Writing in his latest piece for The Athletic, Hay has revealed that the Yorkshire club will ‘invest’ in a new forward, which is the ‘final target’ on their list.

This can be done with the sale of Raphinha, which Hay says is the only ‘major’ piece of business that they still need to ‘negotiate’.

The Verdict: Needed

The arrival of Sinisterra should accommodate for the likely departure of Raphinha, so the Whites can use the money received to invest in a much-needed striker for the team.

Patrick Bamford is the only senior one in the current squad, and his season was seven Premier League starts.

Both Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood are still learning their trade at 20 years of age, and so the Peacocks could really do with another senior frontman in case Bamford faces another lengthy spell on the sidelines.

West Ham make contact over Broja transfer

West Ham United have reportedly made contact with fellow Premier League club Chelsea over a potential summer move for Armando Broja.

What’s the talk?

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist and transfer insider Dean Jones had this to say about whether or not Chelsea had offered Broja and money in exchange for Hammers midfielder Declan Rice.

He said: “So far, that hasn’t happened. West Ham have made contact, and it’s been about what’s his figure. And Chelsea have basically stuck a price tag on him that West Ham aren’t going to touch, which is between 40 and 50 million. So, at the moment, there hasn’t been any negotiating around that.”

A product of Chelsea’s youth system, the striker has made 54 appearances for the west London club across their senior and youth teams, scoring 21 goals in the process.

After completing a loan spell with Vitesse Arnhem in which he scored 11 goals in 34 appearances, the centre-forward was moved out of Stamford Bridge on loan again last summer. This time, the 20-year-old got his first full taste of regular Premier League action as he made 38 appearances for Southampton.

During his time with the Saints, the youngster found the net nine times in total, with six of those coming in his 32 league appearances for the south coast club.

Moyes will be thrilled

To further highlight the attacking talent he delivered last season in the top flight, only James Ward-Prowse (51) and Che Adams (49) racked up more shots at goal than Broja (48) among Ralph Hasenhuttl’s squad.

This shows just how capable he is of being a regular goal threat in the Premier League.

Taking all this into account, it’s safe to suggest that David Moyes would be thrilled that West Ham have been in contact with Chelsea over a potential move for the young striker this summer, especially since the Hammers only have Michail Antonio as a natural centre-forward.

However, with the reported price tag of €40m-€50m (£34.7m-£43.3m) that Jones mentioned being put on the player, it’ll be interesting to see whether or not the two clubs would be willing to negotiate a deal which would suit all parties.

Nonetheless, even if it would take a substantial transfer fee to get Broja to the London Stadium, this would be an investment worth making given his young age and clear attacking capabilities.

Leeds keen on signing Romeo Lavia

Leeds United ‘have an interest’ in signing Belgian youngster Romeo Lavia in the summer transfer window, according to reliable journalist Mike McGrath.

The Lowdown: Lavia an emerging talent

The 18-year-old is currently on Manchester City’s books, having joined the reigning Premier League champions from Anderlecht back in 2020.

Lavia has won ten caps for Belgium’s Under-18s side, as well as one for the Under-21s, catching the eye with his performances in midfield with 60 appearances across the various levels at City.

With the Belgian unlikely to make a quick breakthrough at a club packed with world class superstars though – his current deal expires in 2024 – it could be that he moves on to pastures new this summer, in order to continue his development.

The Latest: Leeds keen on move

Taking to Twitter on Thursday, McGrath confirmed that Leeds are interested in acquiring Lavia’s signature:

“LUFC have an interest in Belgium U21 midfielder Romeo Lavia, who was part of the MCFC 1st team squad last season, as they look to strengthen that area of squad for Jesse Marsch next season”

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-news-45/” title=”Latest Leeds United news!” poster=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/cropped-2022-03-10T184055Z_1834933207_UP1EI3A1FW561_RTRMADP_3_SOCCER-ENGLAND-LEE-AVA-REPORT-1-scaled-1.jpg” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: One for the future

While Lavia wouldn’t arrive as an immediate key player at Leeds – he is yet to make a single Premier League appearance – he would come in as an exciting one for the future – Sam Lee of The Athletic even says there are some within the Etihad who believe he could be a first-team regular there.

Jesse Marsch could initially deploy the ‘highly rated’ (Lee) talent in the Under-23s, allowing him regular football, before eventually blooding him as a regular part of his squad.

Planning for the long-term future is vital at Elland Road, ensuring the club continues to build for many years to come and doesn’t end up fighting relegation again, and players of Lavia’s quality are key to that happening.

Rangers in talks over Rabbi Matondo deal

A big update has emerged on Glasgow Rangers and their pursuit of a deal to bring a winger to Ibrox in the summer transfer window…

What’s the talk?

According to Wales Online, the Gers have entered talks over a deal to sign Rabbi Matondo from FC Schalke in the coming weeks, after Cercle Brugge opted against a €3.5m (£3m) swoop.

The report claims that both Old Firm giants are negotiating with the German club as Ross Wilson looks to snap the Wales international up ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

However, he is currently away on international duty with his country and this means that there is no rush to get anything done in the immediate future.

Gio van Bronckhorst needs him

The Gers must ensure that they are able to beat Celtic to his signature as the Ibrox head coach needs him badly to improve his options out wide.

Fashion Sakala, who also played as a striker at times, was the only winger with more than two goals (seven) in the Premiership last term. Scott Arfield (four) and Joe Aribo (eight) also played out wide at times but also played in central midfield and in the number 10 role, with the latter filling in as a false nine towards the end of the campaign.

Matondo has the ability in the final third to come in and provide a real goal threat from out wide, which would be a huge boost to van Bronckhorst’s squad.

He showed potential of being a top-class forward at youth level as he produced 11 goals and five assists in 32 games for Manchester City’s U23s, catching the eye of the first-team manager.

Man City boss Pep Guardiola previously praised the youngster as he said: “They (Schalke) are interested in another young player. I know how good he is, incredibly fast winger, and a young talent. This club is working so good.”

He has also been lauded by ex-Wales boss Ryan Giggs in the past, with the former Manchester United winger dubbing his pace as “electrifying”.

In 2021/22, Matondo finally showcased his quality at first-team level as he managed ten goals and two assists on loan at Cercle Brugge from Schalke.

These statistics, along with his youth form for City, suggest that he has the natural ability to make things happen with the ball in the final third.

Matondo has the quality to score goals and did so at an impressive rate for a winger during his spell in Belgium with Brugge.

Given the lack of consistent scorers from out wide in the current Gers squad, the Welshman – on paper – seems like a signing van Bronckhorst desperately needs. Hopefully, Wilson can now deliver the attacker to him before the end of the window…

Everton eye move for James Garner

Everton are set to make big changes this summer and have been linked with a number of players ahead of the transfer window, with a potential target now ruled out of a move to Goodison Park already.

What’s the latest?

According to football journalist Jacque Talbot, there is “no chance” that Manchester United midfielder James Garner will join Everton this summer.

Talbot tweeted;

“No chance James Garner goes Everton or Leeds. Man United won’t sell him permanently either.”

Supporters will be disappointed

The Toffees are in desperate need of reinforcements this summer following a poor Premier League season and signing a young talented player like Garner would have been a major coup for the club ahead of next season, so supporters will surely be disappointed.

The 21-year-old has had an impressive season at Nottingham Forest as a standout performer in the team that have now been promoted to the Premier League following a victory over Huddersfield Town in the play-off final at Wembley.

Garner scored four goals, delivered eight assists and created seven big chances as well as making 2 key passes, 1.4 interceptions and 1.8 tackles, winning the majority of his ground duels (53%), proving that he was a dominate force for Forest in both offensive and defensive play from his role in midfield.

Due to the difficult relegation battle, Frank Lampard will need to identify players that can come into the team and make an instant impact and Garner would have been an ideal move for the club on a loan deal from Old Trafford amid Everton’s reported financial troubles.

The urgency to find players that will be the right fit for the Toffees has been further heightened with rumours that Richarlison, Allan and Dominic Calvert-Lewin could make their move away from Merseyside this summer, so losing out on Garner early on with be a big blow for Farhad Moshiri in his attempts to add reinforcements.

Ultimately, the powers at Goodison Park have a lot of work to do during the transfer window to ensure they don’t find themselves in a similar situation as this season and will need to act quickly to make sure they can get the right players in as soon as possible.

The WTC final is the biggest match of Temba Bavuma's career, but he's dealt with this kind of pressure before

Labels and expectations have dogged the South Africa captain through his career, but he’s over them now

Firdose Moonda09-Jun-2025Don’t tell anyone but maybe, quietly, and very, very privately, Temba Bavuma is getting excited for the next few days. And why the hell not? On Wednesday, he will lead South Africa out at Lord’s for their first World Test Championship final, one they reached powered by team spirit. His is not a side filled with superstars, he is rarely listed among the great Test captains, and South Africa are not in the Big Three. But here they are, greater than the sum of their parts, punching above their weight, and – if you listen carefully to the outside noise – showing what’s possible for cricket outside of the India-England-Australia axis. Those are massive responsibilities to shoulder, but no bigger than those Bavuma has already hefted.”I don’t allow myself to get caught up in all the emotion about it, because I guess I know there’s a lot more important and bigger things out there,” Bavuma said before South Africa left for the UK. “I’ve accepted what comes with being in the presence of the national team. There’s good that comes with that and there’s the negative that comes with it.”Related

So here we go again, with the story of how South African sport is always about more than the game: from how it was used as a political tool, in support of and as resistance against apartheid, to how it serves to provide hope to a nation filled with socioeconomic problems. Now you also know what we know: that it matters and it matters so damn much.Bavuma has lived some of this and he has lived it intensely for almost a decade. His Test debut in 2014, as the first black African batter to play for South Africa, was one thing but it was the century he scored against England in Cape Town in 2016 that opened the door to expectations that he may never be able to shut.”The first time I really came across that [the bigger responsibility of being a black African player in the South African team] was when I scored my first international hundred,” he said. “One of the articles you wrote – the headline was ‘Temba Bavuma: a product of transformation’ [it was “Africa applauds a son of transformation”]. At that point, I wasn’t super clued up about transformation and all of that, and when it was introduced at that moment, I struggled to accept it. A couple of years later, I see the positivity in it, but I also see how the narrative kept following me through the good and the bad of my career.”Maybe the media was wrong to create that narrative, but it seemed unavoidable, especially as it came a few years after Cricket South Africa introduced a quota specifically for black African players, and mere months after a group of black African players complained about the way they had been treated by CSA. More recently, Bavuma has played (and captained) in the shadow of the Social Justice and Nation-Building hearings, which threatened to tear South African cricket apart. Having gone through all that, he also knows that the discussion about race can never be totally avoided.”I’m not emotional about it. We [black African players] accept if we don’t score runs in two or three games, you’re going to be called certain names. You accept that even if you do well, there will be people who will be questioning why you are in the team or why you are leading the team.Since the start of December 2019, Bavuma has scored nearly 1800 Test runs at 48.4•Gallo Images/Getty Images”The bigger responsibility is to try and carry yourself with dignity so that other black players who are batters, who hopefully also become leaders, don’t see it as a burden being within the Proteas team. I don’t think that’s really going to change.”But it’s starting to. Last summer, when Bavuma was the leading run-scorer in the home series against Sri Lanka and finished with two centuries in four Tests, he talked about finally being able to be spoken of, and to, as just Bavuma the cricketer and captain, titles he felt he’d earned a few years prior.”If I look at the last four or five years in Test cricket, I think I’ve been more than a solid performer. I’ve probably scored the most runs within the team. My average has been up there,” he said. He’s right. Since December 2019, in a period of lean batting, Bavuma has been South Africa’s leading run-scorer in Tests and averages close to 50. Is it a case of those numbers not being celebrated as much as they should?”I try not to live off what the hype is out there,” Bavuma said. “If the stats are telling a different story to what people are saying, then why should I really worry about people who are trying to find things that aren’t really there? Maybe the difference now is that I’ve started to score 100-plus scores and that’s probably given a lot more confidence to people. But in terms of actual run-scoring, I’ve been doing it for the last four to five years. I find myself in the ICC’s top ten – that doesn’t happen over a space of six months, so I’ve obviously grown as a batter, I’ve grown as a player, as well as a leader.”Bavuma is currently sixth on the ICC’s Test rankings and even that is barely spoken about, but it points to someone who is both consistent and in form, which are two labels hardly ever pinned on him. Why is that?Shukri Conrad’s presence as South Africa’s Test coach has helped the players just focus on their game, says Bavuma, and “not worry about the peripheral stuff that in the past we’ve allowed to poison our culture”•Matthew Lewis/ICC/Getty ImagesIt may be that the seven-year gap between his first and second Test hundreds was long enough to cause people to doubt him. It may also be that his poor form in T20I cricket (where he was also captain till early 2023) was conflated with his ability as a Test player. Whatever it is, Bavuma is now over it and happy to say so.”My career has been an incredible one for me, not from a statistical point of view, but from the experiences I’ve had. With all the things I’ve gone through, all the things I’ve managed to overcome, you almost get to a point where you feel like it can’t get any worse” he said. “I’ve been disappointed. I’ve been rejected. I’ve been embarrassed. So I don’t feel like there’s anything that can really be any worse than what I’ve gone through. And I take a lot of belief and comfort in the fact that here I am, I’m still standing stronger than ever. I believe that I have whatever it takes mentally to deal with whatever comes my way. The acceptance comes from that.”He reached that point when he began to see that being the Test captain didn’t have to be all-consuming. The realisation came around the time he welcomed his first child and was replaced as the T20I captain. That was also the time when current Test coach Shukri Conrad took charge.”In the earlier parts of my leadership, I tried to take on a lot of responsibility because when I came in as a captain, there was a lot of turmoil happening in the team off the field. I allowed myself to get caught up in all of that and didn’t pay due diligence to me as the batter, as the player,” he said.”Now, as much as I’m a team player, I’m not insecure in allowing other guys to lead within the space. Working with a guy like Shukri has really made it simple and easy for players to just play their cricket, not worry about all the other external or peripheral stuff that in the past we’ve kind of allowed to filter and poison our culture. Players are in a space where they can just play their best cricket.”Conrad’s mantra of “this is going to look different” has given South Africa the freedom to dream while also setting a standard. It also has its foundations in respecting the work-life balance of a player, which, in Bavuma’s case, includes fatherhood, a milestone that has changed his perspective about what’s important.Tony de Zorzi (left) and Tristan Stubbs were two of three South Africa batters to score debut hundreds in the Chattogram Test last year•AFP/Getty Images”Growing up, cricket’s obviously always been the main thing. You’d hear the older guys saying that cricket is not everything, but as a young guy that’s all you ever knew. Now I have a different, stronger purpose in a child and really understand that whether I score 100, whether I score 50, whether I don’t score runs, it doesn’t change how that little guy looks at me.”Bavuma’s son, Lihle, is 21 months old and he won’t be making the trip to London. Neither will his wife, Phila, who is taking exams in architecture. But Bavuma’s parents and siblings will be in attendance to watch the culmination of a journey that only properly began after South Africa’s disastrous tour of New Zealand with an under-strength side in February 2024. They lost that 0-2 and then had to win seven out of their eight remaining Tests to qualify for the final. In August, they won 1-0 in the West Indies, but they only really started to believe they had a chance when they were in Bangladesh in October. Bavuma was out injured but still part of the travelling party.”We had a very inexperienced side in foreign conditions, against a team that can be very competitive in their own conditions,” Bavuma said. “And you look at the performances there. Kyle Verreynne scored a hundred in the first Test, KG [Rabada] took a five-for – that’s never easy as a seamer in the subcontinent. And then in the second Test, you had Tony [de Zorzi], Stubbo [Tristan Stubbs], Wiaan Mulder, who is really starting to live up to the expectation that he came in with as a 20-year old, and Senuran Muthusamy as well. He came in as almost a super sub in the game, scored runs and took wickets as well. For me, it was almost like the turning point.”With debut hundreds from de Zorzi, Stubbs and Mulder in Chattogram, South Africa proved to themselves they could bat big, an asset missing from their arsenal before. From there, they had to beat Sri Lanka and Pakistan at home, which they did, and what had seemed to be a long shot a year before – reaching the final – became reality.”We don’t have the wealth of experience that the Australians have, but we’ve got a bunch of guys who play for each other. We believe our chances are 50-50″•ICC via Getty ImagesBavuma admitted to hiding in the toilet when the winning runs were hit against Pakistan in Centurion late last year, too nervous to watch but quietly hopeful.”You obviously have to be optimistic, in whatever challenge or campaign that you start,” he said. “We set the vision as a team as to what we wanted to achieve but a lot of it at the beginning was just trying to find the best make-up of our team. We used quite a lot of players and then without even knowing, we kind of started ticking off a lot of milestones, beating different countries in different conditions, having young guys stepping up and putting in match-winning performances. Along the way, we were still kind of trying to find our philosophy as a team. What was always there within the group was just this willingness to win, this willingness to play with each other and this willingness to just find a way to make sure that things go our way.”Now, they are one step from the summit against the defending champions. Some former players have indicated that South Africa don’t deserve to be there, and they know they go in as underdogs.”We don’t have the superstars,” Bavuma said. “We don’t have the wealth of experience that the Australians have, but we’ve got a group of guys who are super determined to make sure that the result is in our favour. We’ve got a bunch of guys who play for each other. We’ve got a bunch of guys who are desperate to be the man for the occasion. We know we’re coming up against a strong, experienced side in Australia, but we believe our chances are 50-50.”Those odds will be different depending on who you ask, but what isn’t in dispute is that this final is the most important match of the careers of these South African players, and Bavuma in particular.”It will probably be the biggest thing in my career. I grew up wanting to play Test cricket, so now I have an actual opportunity to be in the Test final, but also to lead the team as well. I don’t think it gets bigger than that. What gets bigger than that is obviously winning it. What gets bigger than winning it is winning another one. At this point in time, that’s probably the biggest thing in my career.”And that is worth getting excited about.

Sanju Samson and Rahul Chahar take Smart Stats honours

A look at the top individual performance so far in the IPL with the help of our statistical tools

ESPNcricinfo stats team20-Apr-2021At the end of the first three rounds of matches, here is a look at some of the highlights of the IPL 2021 season so far through the lens of Smart Stats, which looks at every batting and bowling performance through the prism of match context, thus going beyond the basic metrics of runs, wickets, strike rates and economy rates.ESPNcricinfo LtdMost impactful performance in a game
Sanju Samson’s outstanding 119 from 63 balls took pole position, followed by Shikhar Dhawan’s 92 off 49 against the Punjab Kings. Although Samson’s century came in a lost cause, it was by far the best individual performance. The next highest score for Rajasthan was just 25.The most impactful bowling performance was Rahul Chahar’s 4 for 27, which helped the Mumbai Indians beat the Kolkata Knight Riders while defending a low score of 152. Chahar got his first wicket when the Knight Riders needed 81 from 68 deliveries and then dismissed the other top three batters to set up the win. Chahar’s four wickets were worth 6.34 Smart Wickets. Jaydev Unadkat’s outstanding powerplay performance against the Delhi Capitals and Shahbaz Ahmed’s three wickets in an over against the Sunrisers Hyderabad were the next-best bowling performances. The 76 runs AB de Villiers scored against the Knight Riders was the third-best batting performance.ESPNcricinfo LtdNegative impact performances
Since smart runs take into account the conditions and match context, and gives the real value of each run scored, it is possible to find out – by checking the difference between smart runs and the actual runs scored – whether an innings was beneficial or detrimental to the team. For instance, KL Rahul’s 61 from 51 deliveries against the Capitals were worth just 44 smart runs, which suggests it harmed the Kings’ cause. That is because, while Mayank Agarwal, his opening partner, scored at a strike rate of 191.66, Rahul scored at just 119.60. In the end, the Kings managed to score 195 when they were looking at close to 220 at the halfway stage, and the Capitals chased down the score in just 18.2 overs. In a match where the average strike rate was 162.6, Rahul scored at 119.60.There were two other knocks that negatively influenced a team but there were other players who compensated for it to ensure the team did not lose. Devdutt Padikkal and Ishan Kishan had an impact of -12 runs but de Villiers and Kieron Pollard made up for the slow scores of their team-mates towards the end.At the other end, David Miller’s 62 and Jonny Bairstow’s 43 were the innings that had the highest positive influence, in terms of difference between the smart runs and the runs they scored. Miller’s 62 were worth 82 smart runs while Bairstow’s 43 were worth 63 smart runs.ESPNcricinfo LtdOvers that swung the game around
ESPN’s Forecaster tool is fed with match situations, team strengths, and historic information, based on which it comes up with probabilities of a team winning. As the game progresses, these probabilities change. Here is a look at some of the instances where the win probabilities changed dramatically in an over.In their chase of 153 against Mumbai, the Knight Riders were 134 for 5 in 18 overs, needing 19 runs from 12 balls with two of the best finishers at the crease – Dinesh Karthik and Andre Russell. Their win probability was 80.15% at that stage. However, the world’s best death bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, conceded just four runs in the 19th over to decrease the win probability by 50 percentage points to 30%. Mumbai went on to win the game by 10 runs.In the game against the Kings, the Royals needed 40 runs from 18 deliveries with five wickets in hand. They had only an 18% chance of winning at that stage. However, Samson and Rahul Tewatia smashed Jhye Richardson for 19 runs to increase the win probability to 75%. Although in the end this was not enough for the Royals to win, the over had a huge change in fortunes, which the Royals could not capitalise on.Ahmed’s three-wicket over against the Sunrisers had the third-highest change in win percentages. Before the 17th over, the Sunrisers had an 80% chance of winning, while after the over, it fell down to 37%, and the Royal Challengers Bangalore won by six runs.

As such, it will come as no surprise to learn that Terry, Cech and Drogba all feature in Obi Mikel’s all-time Premier League XI, but the former central midfielder has ruthlessly snubbed one of his former teammates.

As reported by talkSPORT, the Nigerian named N’Golo Kante and Paul Scholes as his two central midfielders, leaving out Frank Lampard, and he even went on to clarify that the ex-England international wouldn’t have featured in a three-man midfield either.

Lampard undoubtedly one of the greatest Premier League midfielders

It is a little strange that the 38-year-old opted to omit his former teammate, given that the Englishman is without doubt one of the best Premier League midfielders of all time, particularly impressing on the front foot.

The Coventry City manager chipped in with a remarkable 211 goals and 149 assists in 648 professional appearances for Chelsea, cementing his place in the Premier League Hall of Fame in the process.

That said, Kante is also a fantastic choice from a more defensive point of view, given what the Frenchman achieved at Leicester City and Stamford Bridge, winning two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, the 2020-21 Champions League and the 2018-19 Europa League.

Lampard played in a golden era of midfielders, sharing the stage with the likes of Scholes and Gerrard, and a number of other former Chelsea stars, who also feature in our list of the best Premier League midfielders of all-time.

Perfect for Bruno: Man Utd launch club-record bid for “the world’s best CM”

Manchester United’s midfield department has been a problem area over the last couple of months, with Ruben Amorim still yet to discover his best partnership at the heart of the side.

The 40-year-old has operated with a two-man partnership ever since he took the reins last November, with the midfielders crucial to his 3-4-2-1 system.

The likes of Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte and Mason Mount have often shared responsibility in starting as part of the duo, but the manager still wants reinforcements in such a position.

Kobbie Mainoo is just another option at Amorim’s disposal, but he’s often decided against utilising the Englishman, as seen by his measly tally of zero starts in the Premier League this campaign.

As a result, INEOS have been tasked with identifying potential options during the January transfer window to try and provide a long-term fix to the issues in the midfield department.

Man Utd’s hunt for new additions during January

Over the last couple of weeks, United have been one of the Premier League clubs interested in a move to land Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson.

It’s been reported that Amorim’s men have already held talks with Sean Dyche’s side over a potential move, but it could be an expensive one, with a £100m price tag currently being mooted.

They aren’t alone in their pursuit of the 23-year-old, with rivals Manchester City also said to be keeping a close eye on his progress ahead of the upcoming window.

However, Anderson isn’t the only midfielder on the Red Devils’ radar, with Real Madrid sensation Jude Bellingham another option INEOS are reportedly considering.

According to one Spanish outlet, Amorim’s men have made a €150m (£130m) bid for the England international in an attempt to solve their current issues.

The report also states that his current employers aren’t looking to offload him at present, which could make a deal somewhat tricky to complete in the near future.

Why Bellingham would be perfect for Bruno Fernandes

Despite being an attacking midfielder, Bruno Fernandes has been asked to play in a somewhat deeper midfield role in United’s squad this season – often partnering Casemiro at the heart of the side.

However, it hasn’t stopped the Portuguese international from starring at the heart of the side, as seen by his excellent goals and assists tally in the Premier League.

In his first 15 appearances of the league campaign, he’s already registered ten combined goals and assists, with three of his efforts coming at Wolves on Monday night.

However, the manager is yet to strike a balance at the heart of the side, especially considering Casemiro is now 33 and set to leave at the end of his contract in the summer.

As a result, Bellingham could well be the answer to the current issue in midfield, especially if his stats from LaLiga in 2025/26 to date are anything to go by.

The numbers he’s produced showcase his remarkable box-to-box nature, which could well make him the perfect partner for Bruno at the heart of the side.

Bellingham, who’s been described as “the best midfielder in the world” by Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes, has been a tad off the pace this term but he’s certainly still the best when you consider raw talent and his potential. There is a reason, after all, that Madrid trusted him to wear Zinedine Zidane’s famed number 5 shirt at the biggest club in the global game.

To illuminate his qualities, he’s completed 8.9 progressive passes per 90, all of which being made into the final third. That sounds pretty perfect for Fernandes, doesn’t it?

Such numbers showcase the creative nature he possesses, with such tallies potentially taking some of the strain and responsibility on Bruno to constantly provide the goods in central areas.

However, out of possession is where the 22-year-old has excelled this campaign, as seen by his tally of 2.9 tackles won per 90 – subsequently ranking him in the top 5% of all players in LaLiga.

He’s also made 0.9 interceptions and won 1.5 aerials won per 90, which also ranks him in the top 5% of midfielders – highlighting his remarkable talents out of possession.

Bellingham’s dominance is showcased in his tally of 67% of tackles entered that he’s won this season, finally ending United’s hunt for a new ball-winner if a deal can be completed.

£130m would be a remarkable amount of money spent on just one player, but the Madrid star has demonstrated world-class levels for many years despite his tender age.

The prospect of him linking up with Bruno is one to get excited about, with the pair potentially having the quality to catapult the club to a title challenge in the near future.
