Man Utd eye move to sign £50m star who scored at Old Trafford this season

Manchester United are keen on signing a £50 million ace who has scored at Old Trafford this season, according to a recent report.

Man Utd transfer news

In what looked like a busy end to the transfer window for the Red Devils, it may now turn into a quiet end, as there appears to be no transfers in the pipeline for the Premier League side. Man United have seen Marcus Rashford and Antony leave the club in recent days, and while Patrick Dorgu has arrived as a replacement for Antony, United were hoping to bring in one for Rashford.

Man United need to add some attacking depth

INEOS was in talks with Bayern Munich over a possible deal for Mathys Tel, who is open to leaving the German giants in search of regular first-team football. United were hoping to get the Frenchman on a loan deal with a possible option to buy, but Bayern wanted to sell Tel on a permanent basis, and therefore, a deal was deemed off. However, Nathan Salt of The Daily Mail has reported that United are still looking to sign Tel if a deal can be agreed upon between now and the deadline.

Mathys Tel

As well as Tel, United also had Aston Villa’s Leon Bailey under consideration as a replacement for Rashford. Bailey has been in and out of the side, and he was one of a few players identified as a potential option for United, but since then, a move from United for Bailey has been ruled out.

Man Utd eyeing move to sign £50m ace

While United look to possibly find a late replacement for Rashford, according to a report from Spain, Man Utd also have their eyes on signing Dean Huijsen from AFC Bournemouth.

Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen

The report states that as well as United, French champions Paris Saint-Germain are also keen on signing the young central defender. The 19-year-old, who only joined the Cherries in the summer, has attracted transfer interest after his impressive performances in the English top flight. Huijsen is seen as a long-term investment by people at Old Trafford, as he can complement their defence, and Ruben Amorim is keen for his side to bring the Spain under-21 international to the club, as he trusts his potential to adapt to his style.

PSG are said to be willing to make a substantial investment to sign the defender, and it could cost both them and United as much as £50 million to sign Huijsen, as that is the price tag Bournemouth have placed on the player.

Huijsen is under contract at Bournemouth until 2030, so the Cherries are under no time scale to sell the player, meaning an attractive offer will have to be made to tempt the club into selling. It has been an impressive campaign for the young defender so far, a highlight being scoring in the 3-0 win over United at Old Trafford earlier this season.

The Red Devils may see Huijsen as the ideal defensive reinforcement, as he can compete and learn from the likes of Leny Yoro, Lisandro Martínez, Harry Maguire and Mathijs de Ligt.

West Ham make enquiry for "proper goal-getter" likened to Freddie Kanoute

West Ham United have made an enquiry for a “proper goal-getter” who plays like one of the club’s cult heroes, according to a new report.

West Ham latest news

West Ham manager Graham Potter said his side “need to find solutions going forwards” after slipping to a 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at the London Stadium at the weekend.

A brace from the in-form Jean Philippe Mateta was enough to seal all three points for the Eagles, who have now won three of their last four games in the Premier League – form that has seen them jump up to 12th. Potter’s Hammers, meanwhile, have won just three of their last 10, and currently sit 14th.

West Ham readying offer to 169-goal striker after Graham Potter request

“In terms of the performance today, it wasn’t one that we’re so happy about and obviously the result we’re disappointed with because I don’t think we deserved to get anything from the game,” Potter said after the defeat to Palace.

“We have to accept that as much as it’s not nice to hear, we have to be honest with ourselves and say ‘Okay, we need to do better, we need to find a way to be better’ and that’s where the process is, that’s where the work is and that’s what we need to do.”

Update on West Ham's search for a new striker

West Ham’s biggest problem this season has come in front of goal. Summer signing Niclas Füllkrug has spent much of his career at the London Stadium so far injured, with the Germany international being limited to just a handful of starts in all competitions.

Club record goalscorer Michail Antonio, meanwhile, is expected to miss the remainder of the campaign after being involved in a horrific car crash. Jarrod Bowen is also now out, while Danny Ings, despite being fit, has scored just one goal in 14 games.

West Ham forward Michail Antonio

To help solve their woes in front of goal, the Hammers are reportedly eyeing a move for RB Leipzig and Portugal striker Andre Silva. According to TBR Football, West Ham have asked Leipzig about signing the 29-year-old, who now finds himself on the periphery at the Red Bull Arena.

Leipzig technical director Christopher Vivell previously described Silva, who has scored over 150 careers goals for club and country, as a “proper goal-getter”.

The Bundesliga’s official website also once compared Silva to West Ham cult hero Freddie Kanoute, who scored 33 goals in three-and-a-half seasons with the Hammers between 2000 and 2003.

“With an unflappable composure and poacher’s nose in the opposition box, it is little wonder Silva eared comparisons with club legend Fredi Kanoute during the early part of his one-season loan with Sevilla,” reads a passage on the website. “He’s not the fastest in a footrace, but it’s his speed of thought that makes him such an effective centre-forward, punctuated by the uncanny knack for being in the right place at the right time.”

Nottingham Forest could sign £17m "big talent" to replace Gibbs-White

There have been several standout players for Nottingham Forest this season, in what has been a fantastic campaign so far. The East Midlands side are flying in the Premier League, with Chris Wood their top goalscorer. The New Zealand striker has 12 goals to his name in the top flight.

Anthony Elanga has also been a standout player for the men in Garibaldi Red. The Manchester United academy graduate has three goals and four assists in the top flight. That is just three more goals and assists than the other first-choice winger for Forest, Callum Hudson-Odoi, who has two apiece.

Perhaps the star of the show for Forest this season, however, has been Morgan Gibbs-White.

Gibbs-White’s stats in 2024/25

It has been a season to remember for Forest number ten, Gibbs-White, after what was quite a slow start to the campaign. He has four goals and three assists in 16 top-flight games this term but has been especially profitable in the last few games.

Morgan-gibbs-white-nottingham-forest

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers man has scored or assisted six goals in his last six games across competitions. That included a goal and assist against Man United at Old Trafford in a 3-2 win at the start of December.

He is clearly highly regarded in the footballing world. Despite patchy form at the start of the season, former England interim manager Lee Carsely called him up to the national team and promptly gave him his debut. He called the 24-year-old “difficult to play against”, which is high praise indeed.

It seems like Gibbs-White is back to his best, which is a huge benefit for Forest. However, he is believed to be of ‘keen interest’ to Premier League sides Liverpool, Manchester City, Newcastle United and Aston Villa, who could all try and sign him, according to the Mail.

Morgan Gibbs-White celebrates for Nottingham Forest

In the event of the Forest talisman leaving the club, they might well already have a replacement lined up.

Forest's perfect Gibbs-White replacement

The player in question here is attacking midfielder Habib Diarra. According to a report from Asromalive.it earlier this week, the East Midlands outfit are targeting the midfielder, who could cost upwards of £17m. They could go up against fellow Premier League side Everton in the race to sign the 21-year-old.

Habib Diarra in action for Strasbourg

Should Forest get a deal over the line to sign Diarra, they would be adding a “big talent” to the club. At least, that is what football talent scout Jacek Kulig described him as, which certainly bodes well for the City Ground faithful.

Indeed, the versatile midfielder has had a strong season so far in 2024/25 for Ligue 1 side Strasbourg. The Senegalese midfielder has scored four goals and has one assist in 15 French top-flight games this season, including one on the first day of the season.

He is also a brilliant leader, as shown by the fact he has captained the club in all the Ligue 1 games he has played, much like Gibbs-White in Nottingham.

Not only does he play a similar role to the Forest skipper, as an advanced number eight or number ten, but the numbers are also up there with the former Wolves man, too.

Habib Diarra in action for Strasbourg

Statistically, you can see the similarities between the two when comparing them on FBref. Their ball-carrying numbers stack up well, with Diarra averaging 2.39 progressive carries per game and Gibbs-White only slightly more, with 2.73.

Creatively, the Strasbourg midfielder averages 4.65 progressive passes per 90 minutes, compared to the Forest playmaker’s 5.18 each game.

There is no doubt that losing Gibbs-White would be a huge blow for Forest. The attacking midfielder is the talisman of the East Midlands outfit and would not be easy to replace. Yet, they may have found someone who can.

For a fair price of just £17m, they could bring in a talented creative midfielder with an eye for goal, who is also a great leader. That could easily be a description of Gibbs-White. It certainly seems like Diarra could be a fantastic addition to the men in Garibaldi Red.

Their own Mbeumo: Emery must now unleash Aston Villa’s "special" star

Aston Villa fans would have been on cloud nine when you cast your mind back to the start of October, having just toppled Bayern Munich under the Villa Park lights in the Champions League.

That feels a very long time ago now, however, instead of just two months, with the Villans now without a victory in their last eight games in all competitions, having also tasted defeat on Europe’s biggest stage in this run of dire games at the hands of Club Brugge.

If the Premier League underperformers are to turn their form around when Brentford come to town later tonight, they will have to ensure they shackle Bryan Mbeumo for the full 90 minutes, who has been a top star for Thomas Frank’s confident Bees whilst Villa have struggled.

Why Aston Villa need to stop Mbeumo

Whilst the likes of Ollie Watkins have receded into their shells in attack for Emery’s men as of late, Mbeumo has sparkled brightly for his employers, with eight goals and one assist coming his way this season in the Premier League from 13 encounters.

Villa will take some solace in the fact the dangerous Cameroonian has only bagged one of those goals away from home soil, but the top-flight strugglers will have to stay alert all the same, with Mbeumo capable of popping up with a spectacular strike from nothing.

West Ham United found that out the hard way when the 25-year-old struck home this beautifully executed first time effort back in September, with the 5 foot 7 ace no doubt raring for more goals to come his way when looking at how leaky Villa have been defensively.

Still, Unai Emery also has an abundance of exciting attackers to call upon much like his counterpart in the Bees dug-out, with one star capable of being his very own Mbeumo if picked.

Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo

Emery can unleash his very own Mbeumo

Jhon Duran could be in line for his first start of the Premier League campaign when Brentford travel to Villa Park, with Watkins perhaps overdue a spot on the substitutes bench after firing consistent blanks recently.

Watkins has only scored one goal in his last seven clashes, with Duran more than capable of taking over goalscoring duties up top in place of the England international to be his team’s own version of Mbeumo.

Similar to the Cameroonian attacker in terms of being more comfortable operating on their left foot, Duran is also capable of firing home a stunning strike for his side out of the blue, with the Colombian tallying up four strikes this season in the league despite zero starting opportunities.

He has been the difference-maker for his team subsequently in high-stakes contests, seen in this instinctive finish that caught out Manuel Neuer during that aforementioned famous night in the West Midlands versus Vincent Kompany’s side.

Labelled as “special” last season by his manager after two late strikes versus Liverpool too, he is more than validating these glowing words with his electric output as an impact substitute, which could lead to a start coming his way in place of a misfiring Watkins.

This change in personnel might well be enough to catch Brentford off-guard, who have only lost once in the league in their last five games, away from Villa’s wins drying up.

If Duran can reach his early top-flight season best against the Bees – as can be seen in his electric goalscoring record above – a positive result might well be coming the way of Emery’s men come the full-time whistle, instead of another disappointing knock to their confidence.

Amorim must unleash exciting Man Utd star who Arsenal wanted to sign

Manchester United travel to Arsenal on Wednesday night looking to make it two Premier League wins in a row after last weekend’s 4-0 triumph over Everton at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim is yet to lose a game in charge of the Red Devils, winning two and drawing one of his first three games at the helm, with tonight undoubtedly his hardest challenge yet.

The Gunners currently sit six points ahead of United, with a win for the visitors denying Mikel Arteta’s title aspirations whilst strengthening their own top-four ambitions.

The meeting at the Emirates this evening will be a good test for Amorim, giving the 39-year-old a perfect opportunity to see how far his side have developed since his appointment just a couple of weeks ago.

He will have numerous decisions to make about his selection tonight, with the former Sporting CP boss needing to make some key calls in various positions ahead of the clash.

Man Utd injury news ahead of Arsenal clash

Ahead of the meeting in North London, it was confirmed that left-back Luke Shaw would miss the match after picking up yet another injury setback this week.

The England international has only featured three times for the Red Devils this season, all of which coming as a substitute since Amorim’s appointment a couple of weeks ago.

Luke Shaw

Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martínez will both also miss the game at the Emirates, after both picking up their fifth bookings of the season in the recent win over Everton, subsequently earning themselves a one-match ban.

Centre-backs Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof have both picked up knocks in recent weeks, with the pair both unlikely to make any impact on the clash against Arteta’s side this evening.

Such issues at the back could allow one player to have some part to play in the meeting, ending his own torrid luck with fitness issues over the last couple of months.

Chalkboard

Football FanCast's Chalkboard series presents a tactical discussion from around the global game.

The Man Utd ace who could stop Bukayo Saka

Bukayo Saka is one of the most in-form players in the Premier League, presenting a real threat against Amorim’s men in the clash at the Emirates.

The 23-year-old has started 12 of the Gunners’ 13 league outings, contributing with five goals and ten assists, with Mohamed Salah the only player to register more contributions this campaign.

Undoubtedly, such a record will inject fear into the United fanbase, but if Amorim is to prevent the English star from causing any chaos against his side tonight, he must hand Leny Yoro his first competitive start for the club amid several problems at the back.

The 19-year-old, who was linked with a move to Arsenal before completing a deal at Old Trafford, is yet to feature after picking up an injury in pre-season – but tonight could be his first opportunity for his new side.

Yoro has yet to have the opportunity to showcase his talents and demonstrate why the hierarchy was so eager to fork out £52m for his signature despite his tender age.

The teenager was described as an “11/10 talent” by scout Jacek Kulig and produced some incredible numbers in Ligue 1 for Lille last season, with his defensive figures potentially playing a huge role in preventing Saka from increasing his already impressive attacking tally.

Ashton Turner backs uncertainty to galvanise Perth Scorchers

Captain Ashton Turner refused to be drawn into whether Perth Scorchers had the toughest challenge in the upcoming BBL amid ongoing pandemic hurdles, instead striking confidence that his team is well equipped to handle any arising drama. The Covid-19 situation across Australia continues to cause headaches on the eve of the new BBL season exacerbated by the unknown of the Omicron variant. With Western Australia implementing the strictest border controls in the country, where travellers from New South Wales and Victoria are not currently allowed into the state, Scorchers could face lengthy stints on the road much like last season when they only played four games at Optus Stadium.Scorchers start their season against Brisbane Heat at home on December 8, but their next fixture against Adelaide Strikers on December 11 had to be moved to Sydney due to changed border rules.Their only other confirmed match at Optus Stadium is against Hobart Hurricanes on December 20.Related

There are fears chaos could ensue during Scorchers’ bid to end a five-year title drought, but Turner sought a positive approach.”We know we are going to get challenged,” he said as he was unveiled as Scorchers’ permanent captain on Wednesday. “There is a bit of uncertainty over where we will play our games. It’s something we’ve had time to prepare for. Everyone is used to changing schedules and fixturing at the last minute.”Against the odds, Scorchers were runners-up last season and showcased a resolve reminiscent of their golden era under Justin Langer. Turner, who was the interim captain last season relieving then skipper Mitchell Marsh, believed they could once again be “galvanised” if the situation goes awry.”We feel like we can be adaptable. We have a team that can play on the east coast,” he said. “I think there is a real benefit of being in a confined space together for a long period of time.”Coupled with the off-field uncertainty, there is an unknown over a new-look Scorchers outfit without big-hitting openers Jason Roy and Liam Livingstone. It will add burden on returning international Colin Munro who has an extra point to prove after missing selection for New Zealand’s T20 World Cup squad.Turner, however, believed the Scorchers had the “flexibility” to cover the absences of the dynamic Englishmen. “It will be a different approach this year. Mitch Marsh is probably the in-form T20 batter in the world and will move up the order,” he said. “I’m looking forward to Kurtis Patterson coming into the team and Cameron Bancroft having a more stable position at the top of the order.”Scorchers will be short-handed at the start of the season with several stars on Ashes and Australia A duties, including in-form quick Jhye Richardson who Turned tipped to be absent for a while to come.”He’s only getting better and better and I can’t wait to watch him on TV playing in the Ashes,” he said.Stepping into the captaincy permanently, Turner takes the reins of the BBL’s most successful franchise which returned back to prominence last season after a couple of years in the wilderness.”We’ve got a rich history…Katich, Voges, Marsh left their legacies,” he said. “It’s hard to emulate those guys who have come before. I’m learning, trying to get better.”I’m hopeful for the best case scenario [this season]. We don’t know what happens [after the first two home games]. But what we can do is focus on the first game and we’re excited to play.”

Man City battling to sign "interesting" in-demand £25m star for Guardiola

As they look to keep hold of their Premier League crown for years to come, Manchester City have reportedly joined the battle to sign a La Liga defender for Pep Guardiola.

Man City transfer news

Even in the middle of an injury crisis, City have put themselves in contention to seal what would be a fifth straight Premier League title win. Without Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish, Kyle Walker, Rodri, Savinho and others at various stages of the current campaign, the news that Guardiola is likely to sign a new contract at the club will be of the greatest relief.

So many absentees begs the question as to whether the Premier League champions should return to the transfer window either in January or next summer. And the transfer rumours certainly suggest that’s the plan, with the likes of Viktor Gyokeres already linked to the Etihad ahead of 2025.

Sporting CP strikerViktor Gyokeres.

The Sporting CP forward is one of few strikers who has gone stride for stride with Erling Haaland so far this season, but before City can turn their attention towards forming arguably the most clinical partnership in Europe, they may yet sign an in-demand defender.

According to reports in Spain, Manchester City are now battling to sign Cristhian Mosquera in an attempt to reinforce their backline, which has been hit by several injuries in the current campaign. Also attracting the interest of Liverpool and Arsenal, the 20-year-old looks set to be spoiled for choice when 2025 arrives.

£400k-p/w Man City star set for urgent talks over new deal ahead of January

He has a massive decision to make in the coming weeks.

ByBen Browning Nov 1, 2024

Reportedly valued at just €30m (£25m) by Valencia, Mosquera represents quite the bargain given his age and potential. Of course, it wasn’t so long ago that Manchester City signed Nicolas Otamendi from Valencia in a deal that helped them on their way to several honours. Now, they can seal a repeat.

"Interesting" Mosquera can become Otamendi repeat

Even in the middle of Valencia’s La Liga struggles, Mosquera has stood out to earn impressive interest. The 20-year-old has more than earned the chance to seal a big move, and working under Guardiola should be the dream for any modern player.

The managerial legend often takes players up several levels, be it John Stones, Rodri or Manuel Akanji. Mosquera could be next in line for such a development.

The young defender has earned plenty of praise during his time at Valencia, including from Football Talent Scout’s Jacek Kulig, who described Mosquera as “interesting” and “Paterna’s finest”.

Beating both Arsenal and Liverpool off the pitch would also be an added boost for City, who could land another talent full of potential.
