Camp Nou return back on?! Barcelona given fresh hope ahead of Valencia clash after La Liga shut down fixture reversal idea while Post Malone concert blocks Montjuic return

Barcelona have been given new hope in their efforts of returning to Camp Nou next month, with alternative plans collapsing around them.

Barcelona have been handed a significant boost in their race to reopen the Camp Nou in time for their first home match of the season against Valencia on September 14. According to a report from , the club received the final construction certificate for the first phase of the stadium's redevelopment on Monday. This crucial step keeps the possibility of a return to their iconic home alive, though it is contingent on a final inspection by the Barcelona City Council scheduled for Tuesday.

The positive development comes as Barcelona's alternative plans have hit roadblocks. The club's temporary home for the 2024-25 season, the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys in Montjuic, is unavailable for the Valencia fixture weekend as it is hosting a Post Malone concert two days before the game is scheduled. Furthermore, according to reports from , La Liga will not grant Barcelona's request to reverse the fixture and play it at Valencia's Mestalla stadium, as league rules prohibit altering the calendar order. This has left the Blaugrana scrambling for a venue, with Girona's Montilivi stadium being considered the most viable backup plan.

DID YOU KNOW?

The initial capacity of the reopened Camp Nou will be just 27,000 spectators. To meet UEFA requirements for the Champions League, the club need to complete a further phase of construction to open more seating. To buy crucial time, UEFA has reportedly accepted an unofficial request from Barcelona to be drawn to play their first group stage match away from home.

AFPWHAT NEXT FOR BARCELONA?

All eyes are now on Tuesday's inspection by the Barcelona City Council. The outcome of this visit will be the decisive factor in whether the club can obtain the necessary permits and activity license to host the Valencia match at the Camp Nou. A tight deadline looms, as by Thursday, August 28, the club must also confirm their chosen home stadium to UEFA ahead of the Champions League group stage draw. If the Camp Nou is not approved in time, Hansi Flick's side will have to finalise an agreement to play at an alternative venue, likely Montilivi, for their long-awaited home debut.

Bayern Munich hit with fine for 37 second delay as Bundesliga giants attempt to blame Mainz for uproar

The Sports Court has asked Bayern Munich to pay a small fine after a 37-second delay in kick-off schedule, for which they blame Mainz.

A match last season has had costly repercussions for Bayern Munich. The reason for this is that the kick-off was delayed by 37 seconds in their home game against Mainz on matchday 31. That 37-second delay will now cost the German record champions €35,000. This is according to a ruling by the DFB Sports Court.

AdvertisementGetty Images SportTHE BIGGER PICTURE

According to the ruling, "the equipment check of the Bayern players" did not take place at 3:25:30 PM on that day, "but only at 3:27:00 PM, thus with a delay of 1:30 minutes." The statement said: "This delay, for which FC Bayern Munich is responsible under Section 14a of the DFL rules of play, also caused the kick-off to be delayed by 37 seconds."

According to , Bayern arguedthat the delay was caused by the Mainz players gathering before kick-off. Their efforts to defend themselves went in vain, as the DFB Sports Court pointed out that this only took 50 seconds – "and thus 15 seconds less than allowed for in the schedule."

DID YOU KNOW?

Had the kick-off been delayed just 29 seconds, Die Roten might have gotten off lightly. However, according to the DFB, this marks the seventh time the record champions have been responsible for a delayed start, prompting the federation to issue a fine.

Moreeng claims South Africa women's dressing room is not divided

Players had asked for a change when his contract was extended, but coach says they’ve talked it out

Firdose Moonda25-Aug-2023Hilton Moreeng has denied a rift in the South African women’s changeroom despite a group of players expressing their grievances with his continuing as the head coach.Moreeng, who is in his 11th year in the post and has had his contract extended until December 31, went as far as to describe the environment as “not unhealthy,” following a two-week camp where players were given the opportunity to air their views. He did not elaborate on what was discussed but indicated the squad is united on the eve of their departure to Pakistan for a six-match white-ball series starting September 1.Asked how he is going to manage players who have written to Cricket South Africa to express their desire for a change in coach, Moreeng batted away any suggestion of a schism. “There are challenges here and there and these internal things we discuss. The landscape has changed. The country has become professional but regarding the changeroom being divided, it’s not something that has happened,” he said. “We are building as a team. Whatever challenges we encounter, which are in every changeroom, is one of those you discuss as you go along. Extended conversations have happened. We had a camp. We could speak and find out what the actual challenges are. We also need to stay focused on the job at hand. It’s not an unhealthy situation. You need to have discussions.”Related

South Africa name Wolvaardt as women team's interim captain

Chief among those conversations is the one Moreeng had to have with Sune Luus, who opted to step down as South Africa captain earlier this week. The 27-year-old had served as a stand-in several times and had great success recently, taking them to the final of the T20 World Cup. At that tournament, she even opened up about making the team her own.CSA initially did not provide a reason for Luus resigning but later said she chose to “to focus on her cricket.” Moreeng echoed that line. “She decided to step down because she wants to contribute to the team and focus on her performances. In the beginning, it was tough but we had to accept that’s how the player feels. She feels she can contribute more (not as captain).”Laura Wolvaardt, who Moreeng praised for having a “very good cricket brain,” has taken over in interim capacity for the Pakistan and New Zealand series, which close out South Africa’s year. A decision on the permanent captain will be made towards the end of the year. That is also when a longer-term coaching appointment will be made with the board now accepting applications. Moreeng did not explicitly say if he will put his name in the hat again but confirmed that he still has ambitions for the national women’s team. “I have enjoyed working with the players from the first day. When we started as a team, it’s always been one of our visions to give ourselves a chance to win a World Cup and to have a professional league,” he said.Already one of those goals has been met. This week, CSA announced that the top-tier of women’s domestic cricket will be made professional and that each of the six teams competing can contract 11 players and a full-time backroom staff.Moreeng came close to achieving the second – winning a World Cup – when he oversaw South Africa’s run to the T20 World Cup final earlier this year. “As a country, we can say, we are closing the gap slowly,” he said. “When you look at the top three teams, we are closing the gap.” Given that he has also taken the team to the last two ODI World Cup semi-finals, he called it “frustrating,” to hear calls for his ouster but added “that is the country we live in.” It is ESPNcricinfo’s understanding that the players are not unhappy with Moreeng as a person, but are after a change of ideas.

Denly cuts loose in landmark performance to power Kent home

Daniel Bell-Drummond was also in the runs after Dan Lawrence made a half-century

ECB Reporters Network22-Jun-2023Joe Denly joined James Vince and Luke Wright in passing 5,000 Vitality Blast runs after a breathtaking 32-ball 76 gave Kent Spitfires their fifth straight victory.Denly thrashed his 39th T20 fifty and overtook Wright to move just behind Vince in the all-time run-scoring list – he is now up 5,050 runs in the competition. His tubthumping innings, paired with in-form Daniel Bell-Drummond’s fifth fifty of the tournament in a 110 stand, underpinned Spitfires’ chasing 184 with nine balls to spare.Essex were on the receiving end of a thrashing for the second time in a week to loosen their hopes of progressing from the group, despite Dan Lawrence’s 52.Tawanda Muyeye fell to a top-edged behind in the third over but that only brought Denly to the crease. Two dots, a single and an edgy guide to the third boundary underestimated the carnage that was about to unfold, which started with two pulled sixes.A pair of checked cover drives could have added points for aesthetic pleasure, while the force he used to bring up his 18-ball fifty would have knocked out a herd of oxen. He took his tally to six sixes and six fours before tamely picking out cover for 76.Amongst Denly’s onslaught, Bell-Drummond was classily ticking through his repertoire in a 35-ball fifty. He now has 476 runs in 11 innings.Sam Billings was caught at long off, but Bell-Drummond rose to 69 not out and a 12-ball 20 cameo from Jordan Cox got them over the line.Earlier, Essex were asked to bat and for the fourth time in five games, lost three wickets in the powerplay. Feroze Khushi skied to mid-on where Wes Agar brilliantly caught – after bowler George Linde had visibly prayed – with Michael Pepper and Robin Das leaving the hosts 55 for 3 after the first six overs.Paul Walter came, was dropped and was pinned by Jack Leaning, who was celebrating his 50th Kent T20 appearance.Lawrence was often scratchy but amassed eight fours and a wonderfully-timed six over mid-on in his 33-ball fifty. He and Matt Critchley had rebuilt with a 57-run stand but both fell within three balls of each other, with Daniel Sams only facing six balls before edging behind.Just as Essex looked like recording a very poor score, Simon Harmer and Will Buttleman slapped 40 together in 16 balls, with Grant Stewart taking the brunt in a 28-run over. But that momentum fizzled out with three wickets falling in the final over.

Liverpool now preparing club record bid to sign new £120k-p/w Nunez upgrade

Liverpool are now preparing a club record offer to sign a new forward for Arne Slot as they look to solidify their spot at the top of European football, according to a fresh report.

Liverpool set for busy summer

After back to back quiet transfer windows, Liverpool are set to be incredibly busy this summer. The contract situations of Virgil van Dijk, Mohammed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold all hang over their head, with the trio all key parts of this season’s success but set to walk away for nothing at the end of the campaign as things stand.

There are other issues to sort too; Andy Robertson’s form has dipped severely this season, and a new left back will certainly be on the agenda for the Premier League leaders, with Milos Kerkez strongly linked with a move to Anfield.

Further forward, there is plenty to do in attack. Federico Chiesa arrived in the summer but has spent much of the campaign on the injury table, while Darwin Nunez has struggled for any consistency this year and it has been suggested that Liverpool are ready to cut ties with him this summer after a third frustrating season on Merseyside.

There are also concerns over Diogo Jota, who like Chiesa has struggled for fitness, with injuries restricting him to just seven starts this season in the Premier League.

With that in mind, there is likely to be major change in attack at Anfield, and now they could be set to break the bank to secure their future no.9.

Liverpool now preparing astronomical offer

According to a shock report from Spain, Liverpool have now turned their attentions to long-time Arsenal target Alexander Isak, and are even preparing an offer to try and tempt Newcastle into selling.

Behind Mo Salah, Isak has been the form player in the Premier League this season, and has found the net 17 times already, more than Nunez and Luis Diaz combined.

His form has seen him praised by all sides, with Michael Owen hailing him as a top striker: “He is top class in every way. He oozes class. He is seriously good and Newcastle have done well to get him, develop him and feed him.”

The Swede still has three years left to run on his £120,000 a week deal on Tyneside and they will be desperate for him to stay, but he continues to be linked with a move away from the Magpies.

Now, the report claims that Liverpool are the latest to show an interest, and it is added that the Reds are “already working on a record-breaking offer” which would see them offer €130m (£108m) for the 25-year-old, a sum that would be their highest ever fee were a move to go through.

Of course, Newcastle will be doing everything that they can to convince Isak to remain on Tyneside, but with interest mounting, a failure to qualify for the Champions League at the end of the current campaign could open the door to his potential exit.

Goals from Christopher Nkunku, Pedro Neto, Levi Colwill and Marc Cucurella downed Southampton in what was an imperious attacking display, with the home side attempting 19 shots on goal and enjoying the bulk of possession.

That being said, the match was also subject to protests from supporters over BlueCo’s ownership of the club, with Maresca urging fans to trust the process in response.

Chelsea manager EnzoMarescabefore the match

“The only thing I can say is that in this moment the fans have to trust,” said Maresca on Chelsea fan protests.

“We’re in the right process and the right direction. Since we started, we’ve been top four most games of the season. The fans have to trust the players. They are doing a huge effort every day to bring this club to the Champions League.”

Chelsea remain trophyless since Clearlake Capital’s takeover of the club in 2022, despite spending millions in the transfer market, but reports suggest that they are set to splash the cash again on bolstering the spine of Maresca’s squad this summer.

Reliable journalist Simon Phillips expects BlueCo to “go big” on a new goalkeeper, defender and striker later this year, with the journalist even claiming Trevoh Chalobah could be offered as a makeweight in Chelsea talks for Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace.

Between the sticks, goalkeeping duo Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen have made notable errors recently, attracting criticism as a result, and the west Londoners are believed to be in the market for a new shot-stopper as a result.

Mike Penders is set to join Chelsea this summer, while Djordje Petrovic and Kepa Arrizabalaga are both out on loan, but that hasn’t stopped them from weighing up more options.

Chelsea hold internal talks over summer deal for Aaron Ramsdale

As per Football Transfers, £120,000-per-week Southampton keeper Aaron Ramsdale is now on Chelsea’s agenda.

Southampton's AaronRamsdalelooks dejected after the match

It is believed that Chelsea have internally debated the idea of signing Ramsdale this summer, with the Englishman potentially looking for a way out of St. Mary’s if they’re relegated from the top flight.

The 26-year-old was attracting interest from Maresca’s side last summer as an option, but he eventually elected to make the switch down south for guaranteed first-team football after being left out in the cold by Mikel Arteta at Arsenal, in favour of David Raya.

Described as “phenomenal” at times by David Seaman, Ramsdale made 89 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners before leaving last year. As of now, it is unclear how much Southampton would demand to sell if they’re relegated.
